The international exhibition “Belarus and the Bible” is over. The exhibition project was really unique, successful, interesting and popular. About 30 thousand people visited the exhibition during the period of activities from September 20 to October 21.
A unique international exhibition project "Belarus and the Bible" was organized by the National Library of Belarus and the Manuscript Research Group (USA).
For the first time in Belarus, internationally important rarities, which age reaches 5 thousand years, are exhibited. The exhibition reflects the history of the Bible from the early valuable manuscripts to the present day. The exhibition presents rarities from the National Library of Belarus and foreign private collections. The main part of the exhibition is represented with originals. The most significant are the pictographic and cuneiform tablets from Mesopotamia (3–2 thousand years BC), the papyrus fragments of the Iliad by Homer (1st century AD), the Aesop’s Fables (1st century BC–1st century AD), medieval parchment manuscripts, a collection of different torus, first printed biblical texts, books of the Reformation, the first translations of the Bible into national languages, polyglottes and illustrated Bibles.
The exhibition has a large creative area, where they can learn to write with a quill in a “manuscript workshop”, be a printer and print a page from the Bible by Francysk Skaryna, make puzzles, take pictures in the “Noah's ark” photozone, visit the "Book Professors’ Club" and museum classes for children.
