The National Library of Belarus has created a new virtual resource dedicated to the 115th anniversary of the birth of the poetess and translator Evgenia Pfliaumbaum within the framework of the project "On the Wave of Time,Throughout the Life".

Today, on November 1, we celebrate the anniversary of the representative of the female "Maladnyak" poetry Evgenia Ergardovna Pfliaumbaum (1908-1996). She was one of the talented and bright participants of the literary association "Maladnyak" and a part of its leadership. Her name is on the same row with the names of famous Belarusian writers of the 1920s, participants of "Maladnyak", who highly appreciated her work. It is pleasant to note that Evgenia Pfliaumbaum was our colleague: in the early 1930s she worked as a bibliographer of the Book Chamber at the State Library of the BSSR.

An intelligent, delicate and fragile poetess with an unusual for Belarusians, "moth-like" surname, Evgenia Pfliaumbaum was able to withstand and overcome the difficult twists and turns of fate, go from complete oblivion to a triumphant return and leave a significant mark in Belarusian poetry. Her poems, which for a long time existed only on drafts hidden in desk drawers, are now sounding again and finding fans, and the name of the poetess can increasingly be heard at literary celebrations and in bookstores, found on the pages of newspapers and magazines. The poetry of Evgenia Pfliaumbaum will not leave anyone indifferent: the lines touch and impress, encourage reflection, give answers to questions and at the same time pose new ones.

As part of the virtual project, the material about the life and work of Evgenia Pfliaumbaum is presented: collected memories of the poetess of her contemporaries, critics and colleagues, fragments of valuable and touching correspondence of the poetess with her husband, a famous writer and also a native of the cohort of "maladnyakovites", Maxim Luzhanin (real name – Alexander Amvrosievich Karatai, 1909-2001).

The virtual resource will allow you to get acquainted with the full text of the poetry collection "Vershy" (1926), the debut collective edition, prepared in collaboration with friends – "maladnyakovites" Zinaida Bondarina (1909-1959) and Natalia Vishnevskaya (1907-1989).

For researchers and anyone who is interested in the personality and work of the poet and translator Evgenia Pfliaumbaum, the full texts of articles by contemporary authors Aksana Danilchyk and Lyudmila Silnova, posted with their permission, will be useful.

The photo gallery which is created with the help of the project partners – the State Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature and the Belarusian State Archives-Museum of Literature and Art (Fund No. 140, inventory 2) gives even greater value to the resource.

The photo gallery includes family photos, photos with colleagues and friends, copies of letters, various greeting cards, telegrams and invitations, autographs and gift inscriptions in books from the Luzhanins' personal library. Of real interest are the "drafts of the soul" by Evgenia Pfliaumbaum: copies of her manuscripts, fragments from notebooks with poetic sketches and translations of the works of J. Byron, T. Tabidze, M. Rylsky, A. Akhmatova, V. Syrokomlya. The users of the resource are presented with the manuscript of Evgenia Pfliaumbaum's memoirs “Longing for Belarus was growing” ("Расла туга па Беларусі"), which she sketched while preparing for an interview with the correspondent of the newspaper Literature and Art ("Літаратура і Мастацтва"). in 1989. Researchers are given the opportunity to download all photographic materials for the purpose of their further use with reference to the keepers of the documents.

The section "Perpetuating the memory of Evgenia Pfliaumbaum" introduces information about the events that were held in honour of the poetess. So, one of the recent events was the publication of the collection "Sonets" ("Вершы"), representing selected poetry of Evgenia Ergardovna, including works of the 1920s – 1930s, which the author did not include in her previous editions. The compiler of the book was Aksana Danilchyk, a researcher of the poet's work.

The virtual project "On the Wave of Time,Throughout the Life": for the 100th anniversary of the formation of the all-belarusian literary association "Maladnyak" is being implemented by the National Library of Belarus, the State Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature, the Belarusian State Archives- Museum of Literature and Art and the newspaper Literature and Art ("Літаратура і Мастацтва").

We remind you that the book exhibition "Maladnyak – a page of the history of Belarusian literature" is open in the hall of Belarusian literature (room 205) from October 18 to December 3.

We invite you to get acquainted with the virtual project and its new section dedicated to Evgenia Pfliaumbaum. The project is presented in Belarusian and Russian.

The material is provided by the information and analytical department.

Wise thoughts from the Fine Arts reading room

After reading the quote, I involuntarily recall the sunlight-filled art of French Impressionist artists with their positive attitude and amazing freshness of perception. When looking at their paintings, one feels a rainbow-colored, slightly blurred atmosphere, as if woven from a soft cloud through which pearly light pours.
