The 2nd Republic contest "Library is a centre of spiritual and moral education and upbringing", established by the Belarusian Orthodox Church, will take place in 2016.


This year the Instruction for the republican contest "Library is a centre of spiritual and moral education and upbringing" will be changed: the contest will be held on regional and republican levels. Contest works that take first places in every nomination on the regional level will go to the republican level. Contest works of school librarians along with school teachers that reflect activities on spiritual and moral enlightening and education of a school library will be accepted for participation. Works of town and country libraries will be evaluated separately.

Some points of the Instruction for the republican contest "Library is a centre of spiritual and moral education and upbringing" will be edited as well. After coordination with the co-organizers of the contest, the Ministry of culture and the Ministry of Education, the new edition will be published on the official sites of the Belarusian Exarchate of the Moscow Patriarchate, the National Library of Belarus, the Synodal Department for Religious Education and Catechesis and Orthodox libraries of Belarus.

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.
