Join BookCrossing, the free book exchange worldwide!

Imagine that the whole world has turned into a large library, where the only rule exists: leave a book in a public place to be picked up and read by others, who then do likewise. Then any spot (park, cafe, subway, bench in the garden ...) can be a bookshelf where readers leave their books after reading. You can come at a convenient time and pick up any book you like.

The main point of crossing, or exchanging of books is to release the book from the bonds of your bookcase and let it travel around the world, so that others can enjoy it.

The idea for BookCrossing was conceived by Ron Hornbaker in 2001. For a start, he left 20 books with explanatory inscriptions in the lobby of his hotel. Six months later, his website had about 300 members who were "releasing" books and bringing new participants.

BookCrossing came to Belarus four years ago, and today over 30 “safe shelves” are registered in public places of Minsk: educational institutions, libraries, cafes and shops. Besides, Belarusians have created some online platforms for bookcrossers: the exchange website Мена бай, community Буккроссинг Беларусь Also you can join the free online book club bookcrossing.com.

The National Library of Belarus invites you to the BookCrossing area, which is located at the entrance. At present, about 40 books are on our "safe shelf": novels, fantasy, fairy tales and detective stories. The place of honor is given to books of the series "Library of the Union of Writers of Belarus."
