From October 16, 2008, to November 15, 2008, in the Belarusian Literature Reading Room (room 205) is open an exhibition “The chronicler of Belarusian history” dedicated to the 130th anniversary of Vladimir Picheta, (1878 – 1947), the specialist in the history of the Slavs, the head of Belarusian State, one of founders of Inbelkult, member of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the USSR Academy of Sciences, honored professor of Belarusian Soviet Republic, honored scientist of Uzbek Soviet Republic.
Vladimir Picheta, the scientist historian and author of over 500 works is well known both in Belarus and abroad. European scientists regard him as an expert in the history of Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Poland, Czechia, Serbia, and Bulgaria. Vladimir Picheta is one of founders of Belarusian historical science.
The exposition totals over 100 materials and includes four sections.
In the section "Scientific works by Vladimir Picheta" are displayed works by the author such as: “Sigismund-August’s land reform in Lithuanian and Russian state” (1917, 1958), "The history of Lithuanian state before the Lublin Union” (1921), "The history of national economy in Russia in the ХIХ-th – ХХ-th centuries" (1922, 1923), "The history of peasant rebellions in Russia" (1923), "Belarusian language as national and cultural factor" (1924, 1991), "The history of Belarus. Part1" (1924), "The main stages of the historical development of Western Ukraine and Western Belarus” (1940), "The history of Belarusian people" (2003), "Belarus and Lithuania in the ХV-th – ХVI-th centuries" (1961), and others. Vladimir Picheta compiled was a compiler of a bibliography “The history of Western Belarus form the antiquity”.
The second section of the exhibition "Publicationa by Vladimir Picheta in periodical sand collected works" contains some scientific works by the author published in journals “Historical Notes”, “Issues of the History”, “Historical Journal”, "Russian Archive”, and collected works “Western Belarus. Book 1" (1927), "The Patriotic War and Russian Community (1812 – 1912). VolumeVII" (1912), and others.
In the section "Vladimir Picheta: life and career" are displayed materials dedicated to Vladimir Picheta’s biography.
