The National Library of Belarus congratulates readers on the Day of Belarusian Literacy and presents a book exhibition "Belarusian Educators".
In the first week of autumn Belarusian people traditionally celebrate the Festival of Literacy and Book. Belarusian people have an old tradition of the book culture.
500 years ago, on August 06, 1517, Frantsisk Skaryna (born in Belarusian town Polotsk) printed in Prague the "Psalter". There was the first East Slavonic printed book. Successors and followers of Frantsisk Skaryna are pride of their eminent compatriot. Belarusian people revere the memory of Efrasinia Polotskaja, who founded in the 12th c. a school for transcription of spiritual books; as well as Cyril Turovsky, Symon Budny, Vasil Tsiapinsky, and other Belarusian educators who left for their contemporaries and issues a number of spiritual works.
The Day of Belarusian Literacy is a real people’s holiday, a great day for all who honor their mother language, culture and traditions.
