With the blessing of Metropolitan Pavel of Minsk and Zaslavl, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, the 5th Belorussian Christmas Readings “The Great Victory: Heritage and Heirs” have been officially opened at the National Library.

At the grand opening, an agreement on cooperation was signed between the Belarusian Orthodox Church and the Ministry of Information of the Republic of Belarus.

The event was attended by Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavl, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus Pavel, Minister of Information of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Karlyukevich, Minister of Health of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Karanik, Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus Irina Kostevich, and Director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky.

As part of the event, winners of the 5th Republican contest “The Library as a Center of Spiritual Education and Upbringing” were awarded. The contest is held annually among Belarusian libraries with the aim of intensifying their educational activities.

Also, a meeting on spiritual enlightenment through the activities of libraries was held. The chairpersons were Archpriest Vladimir Borisevich and chief librarian of the Library Science Research Department of the National Library of Belarus Olga Rynkevich.

The Christmas Readings were attended by former juvenile prisoners of Fascism, clergy, government officials, cultural figures, scientists, medical and social workers, representatives of law enforcement agencies, educational establishments and other institutions.

The orchestra of the Military Academy of the Republic of Belarus performed at the event.

We remember the great heroic deed

On May 7, on the eve of Victory Day, the staff of the National Library of Belarus laid flowers at the monument "Grieving Mother" in the Chelyuskintsev Park of Culture and Recreation. During the war of 1941-1943, thousands of dead soldiers, shot residents, as well as those who died during the difficult war years from hunger and disease found their last refuge here in mass graves.
