A holiday exhibition “The New Year’s Serpentine” runs in the circular corridor (2nd floor), from December 3 to January 15.

Christmas and the New Year are very particular holidays, the time of miracles and fairytales. The winter holidays are full of wonders and joy, fun and presents, cozy evenings with the family and friends. On the New Year’s Eve they sum up and see off the outgoing year with all its joys and sorrows. In different countries, Christmas and the New Year’s night are considered magical.

The exhibition will introduce you to the history and traditions of celebrating Christmas and the New Year. You will learn how to decorate your apartment, prepare original gifts to your friends and family, make your own masks, souvenirs and Christmas decorations. Advice of professional decorators and scenario writers will help you to lay the table and organize an unforgettable holiday, full of fun and surprises.

Publications about the celebration of the New Year and Christmas in Belarus are the centerpiece of the exposition. Here you will find the books introducing readers to the cycle of winter holidays and revealing the meaning and symbolism of ritual food, clothing and attributes, mythological and sacred-magical content of rites and divination. Holiday scenarios, based on folk games, fairytales, poetry and dances are on display as well.
