Belarusian Spiritual Songs: a public lecture

November 28. Musicologist Ekaterina Chernova gave a public lecture on spiritual verses, psalms and liturgical chants of Belarusians and introduced listeners to the samples of “divine” songs from the audio recording collection of the Belarusian Academy of Music.

Spiritual songs and canticles are an integral part of folk traditions in most regions of Belarus. Therefore, you can talk about the existence of a folklore element in religious songwriting.

The audience listened to spiritual verses, carols and Easter psalms, and watched a video of the festive choir of St. Elisabeth Monastery (Minsk) performing the verse “Three Angels.” Everyone was amazed at how simply such musical compositions interpret the sacred texts.

At the end of the event, the attendees shared their impressions with each other and asked librarians about materials from the collections of the National Library.

The next lecture will be on December 5, at 15:00.

All interested are invited.
