“Graphics”, and exhibition of Valery Slauk’s art, timed to his 70th anniversary, opens in the library, on 7 December.

The "Belarusian Dürer", virtuoso artist and unexcelled dreamer, Valery Slauk, is inviting you to the wonderful world of his own, inhabited by hundreds of fantastic characters.

Valery Slauk’s art is among the brightest phenomena in the modern Belarusian graphics. His handwriting is recognized immediately: monochrome, black and white graphics, created with a jeweler’s precision and realism.

Most of the artist’s works are book illustrations. His drawings have given the volume and expressiveness to many Belarusian and foreign books and "revived" the two-volume Encyclopedia of Belarusian Folklore. In general, Slavic mythology is one of the main themes in his work: wizards, goblins, knights, mermaids and nixies created by the artist’s imagination come to life, becoming a part of everyday reality.

The offered art exhibition is fantastic, mysterious, very expressive and, at the same time, full of delicate irony. It requires the viewer to be unhurried, attentive and thoughtful.

Valery Slauk (born 1947, the urban village of Kokhanovo, Vitebsk Oblast) is a prominent artist and illustrator, Graphic Arts Professor at the Belarusian State Academy of Arts. In 1977, he graduated from the Belarusian State Theatrical and Art Institute.

The artist’s works are kept in the National Art Museum, and also in stocks of the Belarusian Union of Artists, private collections and museums of Austria, Italy and Germany.

The opening is at 4 p.m., in the gallery “Rakurs” (2nd floor)

The exhibition representing Valery Slauk’s phantasmagoric worlds will run until 15 February, 2018.
The ending day may be changed.
