On October 23, 2008, in the framework of the celebration of the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia Apostolic patriarch of Moscow and Russia Alexiy II visited National Library of Belarus.
During the visit Apostolic patriarch Alexiy II took part in the International round table “Baptism of Russia and the fate of peoples of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine”. Applying to participants and organizers of the round table His Holiness noted the historical significance of the Baptism of Russia. The patriarch said the Saint Russia, its ecclesiasticism and national State system were developing according to Saint Prince Vladimir’s commandment “to all Christians”.
In the round table participated: Filaret, Metropolitan of Minsk and Slutsk, Patriarchal Exarch of Belarus;Yuvenaliy, Metropolitan of Krutitsk and Kolomna; Kliment, administrator of Moscow patriarchate, Metropolitan of Kaluga and Borovo; Vladimir, Metropolitan of Kishinev and Moldova; Korniliy, Metropolitan of Tallinn and Estonia; Mitrophan, archbishop of Belaya Tserkov and Boguslavl; members of the Holy Synod of Belarusian Orthodox Church; Georgiy, archbishop of Nizhniy Novgorod and Arzamass;representatives of regional Orthodox churches — Antony, bishop of Moravia (Serbian Orthodox church); Ignatiy, bishop of Provatia (Bulgarian Orthodox church), archimandrite Zakhey (Wood) (Orthodox church in America), archpriest Alexi Zoschenko (Orthodox church of Czechia and Slovakia), and Belarusian scientists and historians.
After the visit Apostolic patriarch of Moscow and Russia Alexiy handed to National Library of Belarus a set of books of “Orthodox Encyclopedia” including volumes XVII and XVIII published before the visit of the Apostolic patriarch to Belarus as well as the history of Russian Church by metropolitan of Moscow and Kolomna Makariy (Bulgakov) in 12 volumes. Workers of the Library presented to the Apostolic patriarch holographic image of the Cross of Saint Euphrosiniya Polotskaya. His Holiness visited as well the exhibition of antique books.
