From January 1 to February 28, the Musical and Audiovisual Documents Reading Room (No 305) will feature an anniversary exhibition "Vladimir Soltan's Thoughts and Moods", honouring the 70th anniversary of the birth of the Belarusian composer, winner of the Belarus State Prize.

Vladimir Soltan would have turned 70 this year. He had a brief but colourful and exciting life. The composer began his career while still a student at the Brest Music School (1970-1974). First attempt at writing were related with vocal genres, but V. Soltan already switched to symphonic and chamber-instrumental music during his conservatory years. His artistic potential was completely realised in these genres.

V. Soltan's goal to overpower music with drama is a defining characteristic of his works. The opera "King Stach's Wild Hunt", which was adapted from the novel by V. Korotkevich and became the composer's signature and was indelible recorded in the history of opera in our nation, best captures this uniqueness of the composer's mind. Vladimir Soltan combines the traditions of European music with Belarusian song and the sound of traditional instruments in a symphony orchestra, therefore it is no accident that his name is also linked to the beginning of the resuscitation of the national opera.

"Pani Jadwiga" and "Milavica", two further operas based on S. Klimovich's libretto, were written by the composer. The operas were not performed because of Vladimir Yevgenyevich's untimely death.

Readers are introduced to the composer's musical lineage through the display. It displays musical collections, audio recordings, scholarly works, and journals' publications.

The opening hours of the exhibition corresponds to the library’s opening hours.
Entrance to the exhibition is available by the library ticket or ticket of the library's social and cultural center.
