The exhibition “Uneasy roads to the self”, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Belarusian composer V.A. Domoratsky (1946–2000), has been opened in the Music and audiovisual documents reading room (305) since August 25 till October 3.
The art of Vladimir Domoratsky is one of quite unexplored pages of modern Belarusian music. This composer very often surpassed his colleagues in new searches, his new found things were used by other authors, and gradually became a tradition. Having started with jazz, pop songs, later he turned to the symphonic and chamber music, made interesting experiments in the sphere of the synthesis of the academic genres and jazz or pop music.
V. Domoratsky achieved a lot in the genres of orchestra and vocal-instrumental music. He is the author of two symphonies, five concerts, four cantatas. In every piece of music he is a deep, conceptually thinking composer, who possesses a diverse arsenal of modern techniques of expressiveness and rich musical traditions of the past. The modern musical language, understanding of musical instruments opportunities are observed in the horn with orchestra concert, piano sonatas and sonata-picture Mosaic, clarinet and piano sonata, piano plays, instrumental concerts.
Marvelous opuses for brass instruments, created by V. Domoratsky, became a special page of the modern Belarusian music: quintet, horn concert, two trumpet concerts, miniatures. The Second trumpet with orchestra concert, given the State award of the Republic of Belarus, surprises with its tragic depth, not typical of this genre. It includes a romantic highness and a strict rationality, harmony of human’s life and wisdom searching, a human, who appreciates life.
V. Domoratsky created romances, songs, even for children. If he is serious, tends to monologs, dramatic expressions, but his songs are sincere, melodic and childishly cunning. Modern dance rhythms, bright melodies, naturalness and nontrivialness of intonations, which seems simple outside, but very diverse inside, all this gives attraction to musical miniatures of V. Domoratsky. The exhibition presents printed music of V. Domoratsky, articles and periodicals. Music manuscripts of unprinted works, audiotapes are given by the composer’s family. It includes the musical Moon day, his last composition.
The exposition offers composer’s photos and other archival documents.
