From August 9 to September 5, in the Official documents division (room 207) there runs an exhibition “The young generation of the world: values, interests and opportunities” dedicated to the International Youth Day.
This Day was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly on 17 December, 1999, (resolution 54/120) and since 2000 it has been observed annually on 12 August. The holiday was established at the suggestion of the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth held in Lisbon in August 1998. The International Youth Day is a good opportunity to attract the world community’s attention to a challenge facing youth, greet their achievements and encourage their participation in all spheres of social life.
According to the United Nations classification youth are people aged 15–24. Today they make 1,2 billion people. i.e. 18 percent of the world population 87 percent of which live in developing countries and suffer from restricted access to public health, education, professional training, employment and economic opportunities. States members of UN accept that the young generation in all countries is the main human resource for development, positive social changes and technological innovations. Youth ideals, vigor and breadth of views play a central role in the forward development of youth societies.
Youth feature open-mindedness and keen perception of arising tendencies, and they introduce their energy, ideas and courage in solving the most complex and important problems challenging mankind. Young realize, often better than senior generations, that in the name of achievement of a common purpose it is necessary to overcome religious and cultural disagreements.
Young people not simply use the results of changes, but also actively participate in them. Showing fidelity, enthusiasm and ingenuity, they bring their contribution to developments and solve the most acute problems challenging society.
The international community should recognize and encourage the youth’s contribution to local, national, regional and global development, and also continue to struggle together for more ample opportunities for young men and women and satisfaction of their legal requirements concerning maintenance of respect, development and worthy work.
In the Republic of Belarus youth are people aged 16–30. National youth policy is a priority direction of social and economic policy of Belarus. The Department of Youth of the Ministry of Education of Belarus is responsible for the questions of formation and realization of youth policy. Regularly every three years a special state program”Youth of Belarus” is adopted. In the country there are a number of youth organizations, such as Belarusian Republican Youth Union, Belarusian Republican Pioneer Organization, Belarusian Association of UNESCO Clubs, League of Youth Voluntary Service, Belarusian Republican Scout Association etc.
The offered subject exhibition reveals social, cultural, economic and political aspects of the state of youth in modern society. More than 100 editions are on display: publications of foreign and Belarusian authors, documents of t international organizations in Russian, English, French and German languages.
The exhibition includes the following subject sections:
- Youth in the modern world.
- International legal documents and programs concerning youth.
- Youth education.
- Youth and labor market.
- Youth’s health.
- The state youth policy in the Republic of Belarus.
The exhibition will be interesting to professors, researchers, post-graduates, students, and also to all who are interested in the issues of youth policy in our country and all over the world.
