“The Writer and Great-Hearted Man”, an exhibition timed to the 120th anniversary of Belarusian writer and playwright Ilya Gursky, runs in the Belarusian literature reading room (205), from April 25 to June 16.

Belarusian writer, playwright, Honored Worker of Culture of Belarus Ilya Gursky (1899–1972) was born in the village of Zamostje, Uzda District, Minsk region. He was a participant of the Civil War in Russia. In 1935–1941, he edited the newspaper Litaratura i mastactva; during the Great Patriotic War he was the executive secretary of the front newspaper Za saveckuyu Belarus, the editor of the newspaper Za svabodnuyu Belarus and thea satirical piece Partyzanskaya dubinka. After the war in 1944–196. headed the magazine Belarus.

The offered exhibition acquaints users with the literary heritage of Ilya Gursky: novels, stories, books of short stories, plays, etc. The works of Ilya Gursky show the processes and events that took place in Belarusian villages in the 1920s, the partisan struggle during the Great Patriotic War, and life in the postwar period.

The exposition presents books, publications of the writer's works in Novym shlyakham and Maladnyak magazines of the 1920s – 30s, and includes a block of materials with reviews and memories of Ilya Gursky.


The opening hours of the exhibition correspond to the library’s opening hours.
Admission is by library card or by ticket of the library's social and cultural center. Information and tickets may be obtained at the registration desk.

We present the updated virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region": on the 205th anniversary of the composer's birth

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.
