On April 24, the library hosted an event timed to the 200th anniversary of Stanislaw Moniuszko.

Our outstanding countryman created twenty operas and operettas, three ballets, two requiems and more than three hundred songs. The anniversary of Stanislaw Moniuszko is featured on the UNESCO Calendar 2019.

Alexander Susha, the deputy director of the National Library of Belarus, told about the known composer an his role in Belarusian culture.

The event was attended by Pavel Sapotko, the director of the National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus; Natalia Arutyunova, the vice-rector of the Belarusian State Academy of Music; Viktor Skorobogatov, the art director of the Belarusian Choir creative team at the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of the Republic of Belarus, and Julia Amosova, the leading bibliographer of the Information and Analytical Department of the National Library of Belarus.

The event featured the presentation of a virtual project and the opening of an anniversary book exhibition.

Users of the Internet portal of the National Library of Belarus can learn more about the famous composer. The virtual project titled Станіслаў Манюшка. Музычны рамантык з Міншчыны / Stanislaw Moniuszko. Romantic Musician from Minsk Province introduces to the composer’s heritage and the staging of his works in Belarus. The project also features audio recordings of the master's works performed by modern musicians, as well as digitized music of the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Part of the project is focused on honoring the memory of the composer in Belarus.

The project is implemented as part of the Republican action plan for the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the composer.

The jubilee exhibition presents more than 50 documents: lifetime editions of works by Stanislav Moniuszko; articles and books about the composer’s life and work, published in different years; modern music editions of Stanislav Moniuszko: claviers and scores of operas, songs and romances based on the lyrics of Adam Mickiewicz and Jan Chechot, as well as materials of scientific conferences and literature devoted to the musical culture of Belarus in the 19th century. The Krakow Polish-language edition Stanisław Moniuszko (Kraków, 1964) features an interesting selection of factual and illustrative material.

The trilingual collection of letters Listy zebrane = Collected letters = Sämtliche Briefe, prepared for publication by Vitold Rudinsky (Kraków, 1969), is the most valuable publication for researchers of the composer’s biography.


The book exhibition is located in the circular corridor, third floor, and will run from May 3 to August 3, 2019.
The closing date may be changed.

The opening hours of the exhibition correspond to the library’s opening hours.
Admission is by library card or by ticket of the library's social and cultural center. Information and tickets may be obtained at the registration desk.

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."

Students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National library

On April 18, the students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National Library of Belarus as part of the environmental education and upbringing program. They got acquainted with the thematic book exhibition "Water is a wonderful gift of Nature" dedicated to World Water Day. The exposition is presented in the documents of international organizations reading room (room 207 g).
