The exhibition “The magic of the book” timed to the International Day of Children’s Book runs on the third floor of the circular corridor, from 30 March to 31 July.

The International Children’s Book Day is observed on 2 April, the day of birth of Hans Christian Andersen. It was established by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) in 1967. Every two years on this day the IBBY presents the Hans Christian Andersen Award to a writer – author of books for young people, and an artist – illustrator of children’s books.

The idea of the International Children’s Book Day belongs to the known German writer Jella Lepman.

The role of books in education of a child cannot be overestimated. The book orientates their natural curiosity developing and deepening it, answers thousands of questions arising in their imagination, and it is hardly necessary to talk about the importance of illustrations and design for children’s books. The book illustration develops aesthetic susceptibility of a child, that manifests primarily in the aspiration to beauty in all its forms, developing an artistic taste and giving space to the imagination and creativity. Colorful design of the cover awakes a natural interest and curiosity to the book.

The offered exhibition presents about 30 colorful, richly illustrated books. All of them are written by the Belarusian authors Oleg Ablazhey, Anatoly Butevich, Raisa Borovikova, Elena Maslo, Pavel Mislo, Liudmila Rublevskaya, Nadiezhda Yasminska and others, released by Belarusian publishers and designed by Belarusian masters of book graphics.

Visitors will become familiarized with the latest works of Belarusian children’s literature, appreciate the variety of techniques used by designers of children’s books, and also they will see the illustrations by talented graphic artists Pavel Tatarnikov, Valery Slavuk, Natalya Sustova, Margarita Timokhova, Alexandra Stelmashonok, Katerina Dubovik and many others.

The exhibition will be interesting to both children and adults.
