An exhibition “The golden weave of a soul” timed to the 100th anniversary of the people’s writer of Belarus Janka Bryl (1917–2006) runs in the Belarusian literature reading room (205), from 4 August to 15 September.
Many works by Janka Bryl are included into reading-books and studied at schools and universities. The writer created a vivid and moving trend in Belarusian literature, in prose first of all. His writing is characterized by lyricism and meditation, journalistic sharpness and humor, a bent for philosophical conclusion. The author has a poetical vision of the world, creating believable and versatile images. In his works, human is studied in complex social and psychological conditions.
The exhibition section “On the river of time” acquaints with the diversity of images created by the writer, representing his literary portrait. Collections, selected works and books of prose by Janka Bryl are on display including novels, short stories, essays, sketches, and also lyrical, philosophic and psychological miniatures: Birds and Nests (Птушкі і гнёзды), A Handful of Sunbeams (Жменя сонечных промняў), The Dawn Seen From Afar (Золак, убачаны здалёк), I’m From The Fire Village (Я з вогненнай вёскі…), The Vesper (Вячэрняе) and other works.
At the exhibition visitors will see the writer’s debut verses which appeared in the magazine Šliach moladzi, and also literary translations made by Janka Bryl and his books for children.
The second exhibition section “To be yourself” presents encyclopedias with articles about the writer’s life and career, literary studies dedicated to Janka Bryl, and memoirs. The publication My Family Tree (Мой радавод), along with interesting materials, includes photos from the writer’s private archive which are published for the first time.
The exhibition is designed for a wide audience.
