The exhibition “Science for global sustainable development”, timed to the World Science Day for Peace and Development, runs in the documents of international organizations hall (room 207g), from 9 to 27 November.
This Day was established by the 31st session of the UNESCO General Conference in 2001 (document 31С/56) and since 2002 it has been observed annually on 10 November. The concept of the World Science Day for Peace and Development was suggested at the World Conference on Science (1999, Budapest, Hungary), organized by the UNESCO and the International Council for Science. The conference attendees considered that such an event would annually reaffirm the commitment to the goals set out in the Declereation on Science and the Use of Scientific Knowledge and promote the implementation of the Science Agenda – the Framework for Action.
The purpose of the Day is the renewal of both national and international obligations in the field of science for peace and development and the intention to emphasize the responsible use of science for the benefit of society. The World Science Day for Peace and Development is also aimed at raising public awareness of the importance of science and fill the gap between science and society.
Science is central to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and the Paris Agreement. These documents embody the new concept about prosperity, peace and our planet, based on the right of any society to create and share with others existing knowledge, stimulate the development of innovation and creativity, to determine ways of building a more open, stable and fair future.
Belarus gives great attention to the development of science. Our scientists make a huge contribution to strengthening domestic industry, improvement the social sphere, increasing the intellectual and cultural potential of the nation. Lukashenko, signed Decree Nr. to declare 2017 the Year of Science. According to paragraph 2, on 14 February, 2017, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus adopted the republican agenda for the Year of Science in 2017.
