From October 20, 2008, to November 30, 2008, in the National Library of Belarus is open a book exhibition “Orthodox Belarus”.




Belarus is a country of religious pluralism and poly-confessionalism. The State and the Church have the common aim – strengthening of people’s spirituality.

The aim of the exhibition is to review the religious state of the modern Belarus, reveal Belarusian confessional space, analyze religion policy of Belarusian state, and show the influence of religion on a person, social life, and spiritual and psychological environment.

The exhibition totals about 150 materials and includes the following sections:

A general section includes literature on life and mission of his Eminence Philaret, Metropolitan of Minsk and Slutsk, Patriarchal Exarch of Belarus.

“The road of sorrows” presents materials on the history of Belarusian Orthodox Church.

“Devotees of godliness of Belarus” reveals historical evidences on saints who were included in the Synod of Belarusian saints as well as those who was born or preformed their mission un Belarus.

In the section “Orthodox sacred objects and places of Belarus” are displayed materials on Belarusian spiritual heritage – Orthodox temples, parishes, monasteries, icons, places where took place significant historical events concerned with Christianity in Belarus and where lived and worked saints and Orthodox educators.

The section “Orthodox education in the Republic of Belarus” informs on educational literature published in the last decade that will help pedagogues educate children according to spiritual and moral principles of Belarusian Orthodox tradition. There are displayed publications of church and secular publishing houses as well as extracts from international law documents, Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, Laws of the republic of Belarus, law and normative documents of the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus in the field of interaction of educational institutions and religious organizations.
Saint-Ephrosinia pedagogical lectures are one of the most significant pedagogical forums on the issues of Orthodox pedagogic and education. Collected materials of the Lectures are displayed in this section of the exposition.

In the particular section are displayed an essay on asceticism by saint Pheopan the Hermit (2006), Orthodox calendars, and prayer books.

Organizers of the exhibition hope the displayed books will be helpful to those who intend to learn more about the Orthodoxy and follow its principles in their life.

We present the updated virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region": on the 205th anniversary of the composer's birth

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.

Dreams about Belarus at the National Library

On April 25, the National Library of Belarus hosted the opening of the exhibition "Dreams about Belarus", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders and the 85th anniversary of the birth of People's Artist of Belarus Vasily Sharangovich.
