The exhibition “Intellectual property protection: development, problems, prospects”, dedicated to the International Day of Intellectual Property, has been opened since April 13 till May 29.
This Day was established by the World Intellectual Property Organization Assembly in September 2000 and has been annually celebrated on April 26 since 2001. The date for this international holiday was chosen not accidentally: the Convention according to which the WIPO was established came into force on this very day in 1970. The WIPO is a specialized institution of the UNO, which handles the issues of politics, cooperation reinforcement, providing of services and information in the sphere of intellectual property. There are 189 states that are members of this international organization.
The WIPO and its member-states annually celebrate the International Day of Intellectual Property, carrying out meetings, events and campaigns. Their aim is to achieve population’s better understanding what intellectual property is and to show how the system of its protection facilitates development of many directions of progress: from art to innovative technologies.
Annual Day of Intellectual Property is dedicated to a specific topic. The topic in 2017 is “Innovations: improvement of the quality of life”.
Innovations, either new medicine or improved crop varieties and communication facilities, improve the quality of life, making it safer, calmer and more comfortable.
Innovations are the power of human mind with no boundaries. They are in the origins of progress turning tasks into decisions. Innovations let move beyond, creating new unequalled potential.
The International Day of Intellectual Property helps citizens receive more information how the life changed under the influence of outstanding world innovations, how new ideas help overcome global challenges and how the system of intellectual property facilitates innovations development.
