A photo and documentary exhibition “Belarusian-Italian cultural ties in history and present times” opened in the gallery “Atrium” on 12 April.


The exhibition project was prepared by the Embassy of the Italian Republic to the Republic of Belarus in cooperation with the National Library of Belarus and the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Arts.

In the Year of Italian Culture, this event marks the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Italian Republic and the Republic of Belarus. For a quarter of a century, relations between the two countries have been characterized by a number of cultural and economic activities and the strengthening of friendship between the peoples of Italy and Belarus.

The exhibition presents materials from the official archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Belarusian Telegraph Agency and Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Arts. Verbal notes, official letters and telegrams, protocol photographs, personal documents of the Belarusian opera singers M. Zabeyda-Sumitsky, P. Koniukh, V. Skorobogatov, verse translations by M. Tank, M. Streltsov, Y. Semiazhon, programmes of academic conferences and other materials are on display. The National Library of Belarus presented a book exposition – the publications about the printing pioneer Francysk Skaryna, the Queen of Rzeczpospolita and the Lithuanian Grand Duchess Bona Sforza, and the unique book Carmen de statura, feritate ac venatione bisontis (A Song about the Appearance, Savagery and Hunting of the Bison) by Mikola Gusovsky.

Director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Belarus Stefano Bianchi, First Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Pyotr Kravchenko, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Evgeny Shestakov, and director of the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Arts Anna Zapartyka spoke at the opening ceremony. The musical part of the vernissage was presented by the ensemble Bon Voyage under the direction of Olga Peregud.

The exposition will run till 16 May, 2017.

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.
