A book exhibition timed to the 125th birthday of Belarusian writer and translator Zmitrok Byadulya (1886–1941) runs at the National Library of Belarus (room 205) from 15 April to 9 May.
Zmitrok Byadulya (Samuil Plavnik) is one of the founders of modern Belarusian literature. His name is memorialized in the gallery of those who had made Belarus worldly famous and had enriched its culture and arts. The outstanding master of national belles-lettres, he is a poet-romanticist, author of lyrical poems and miniatures, novelist, journalist covering the most urgent topics of the day, talented and original theatrical critic, ethnographer and folklorist, and children’ writer.
The exhibition section “The talented master of belles-lettres” presents Zmitrok Byadulya’s literary heritage: collected works, selected works, the book of impressionist miniatures “Abrazki” (1913), books of poems “Pad Rodnym Nebam” (1922), “Buralom” (1925), “Poems” (1927), books of short stories ”Na Zacharavanych Gonyah” (1923), “Short Stories” (1926), “Delegatka” (1928), “Try Paltsy” (1930), “Nezvychaynyja Gistoryji” (1931), “Pa Projdzenyh Stsezhkah” (1940), the story “Salavej” (1928), autobiographical stories “Nablizhennye” (1935) and “U Drymuchyh Lyasah” (1939), the novel in two volumes “Yazep Krushinsky” (1929-1932), and books published after the World War II.
The writer’s books for children are also on display. The fairytale in verse “Murashka-Palashka”, the poem ‘Hlopchyk z-pad Grodna”, fairytales “Syarebranaya Tabakerka”, “Klad” and other works are evidence of his knowledge of children’s psychology and his skill to write clearly for the young reader.
A particular section includes Zmitrok Byadulya’s literary translations of Shalom Aleichem, Sh. Godiner and S. Kagan from Yiddish into Belarusian, and translations of T. Shevchenko’s poems from Ukrainian into Belarusian.
The section “Byadulya’s works in other languages” includes the author’s works translated into English, German, French, Russian, Ukrainian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Bulgarian, Yiddish, Kirghiz, Armenian and other languages.
The section “Sketches to the portrait” includes the articles of I. Naumenko, V. Kovalenko, L. Zuborev, Z. Melnikova, I Kulbenikova and other authors about the writer’s life and career.
