From 3 August to 7 September, an exhibition "A sincere voice of the Motherland", timed to the 80th anniversary of Belarusian literary critic, writer, publicist, public figure A. Maldis, runs in the Belarusian Literature Reading Room (room 205).


Adam Maldis is a talented scientist of world-wide reputation, lexicographer, writer, known far beyond the borders of Belarus. In his works he explores the Belarusian literature of the 17th–19th centuries, regularities of its formation and historical development, the history of Belarusian culture, as well as literary relations between Belarus and such countries as Poland, Lithuania and Russia. Adam Osipovich’s books contains many new facts, which were found in archives and libraries in Belarus and abroad. They have an exciting form of narration and attract great attention and interest of readers and become fast rarities.

The centerpiece of the exposition is taken by the author’s monograph Творчае пабрацімства (1966) (Creative blood brothers), Падарожжа ў XIX стагоддзе (1969) (A journey to the 19th century), Таямніцы старажытных сховішчаў (1974) (Secrets of ancient archives), local history essays "Астравеччына, край дарагі…" (1977) (Astravyets, my dear land…), "На скрыжаванні славянскіх традыцый"(1980) (On the Crossroads of Slavic traditions), "Беларусь у люстэрку мемуарнай літаратуры XVIII стагоддзя" (1982) (Belarus in the mirror of memoirs literature of the 18th century), historical novels Восень пасярод вясны (1984) (Autumn in summer), З літаратуразнаўчых вандраванняў (1987) (From literary journeys), І ажываюць спадчыны старонкі: выбранае (1994) (And pages of heritage come alive: selected), a literary portrait Жыццё і ўзнясенне Уладзіміра Караткевіча (1990, 2010) (Life and exaltation of Vladimir Karatkevich), Выбранае (2007) (Selected works), the book Як жылі нашы продкі ў XVIII стагоддзі (2001) (How our ancestors lived in the 18th century), Белорусские сокровища за рубежом (2009) (Belarusian treasures abroad).

The exhibition introduces visitors to the books, which were made in co-authorship with Adam Maldis. It is such works as Пути вели через Беларусь (1980) (Paths lead through Belarus), Перазовы дружеских голосов (1988) (recalling of friendly voices), Литературные обители Беларуси (2000) (Literary abodes of Belarus), Давняя Беларусь: с ностальгией о прошлом (2010) (The Old Belarus: with nostalgia about the past), etc.

At the exhibition some editions are shown separately. It is books published under the editorship of the scientist: bio-bibliographical dictionary Беларуские писатели (Belarusian writers), serial collections Belarusіka = Albaruthenica, Возвращение (The Return) and other works, as well as numerous academic and journalistic articles, prefaces and reviews of the author.

The last part of the exhibition contains materials on the life and work of Adam Maldis.

We present the updated virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region": on the 205th anniversary of the composer's birth

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.
