The book exhibition “A poetic confession of conscience” timed to the 100th anniversary of the people’s writer of Belarus Pimen Panchenko (1917–1995) runs in the Belarusian literature reading room (205), from 3 August to 10 September.
A writer, translator, publicist and honored academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Pimen Panchenko is one of the greatest and, perhaps, one of the most vigorous Belarusian poets of the 20th century. His writing is distinguished for an artistic search, emotions and passions, lofty aspirations and doubts about them. The author wrote in his biography: “In our severe and complex time it’s a shame to engage in poetic entertainment and official bustle, rummaging in a tinseled, ghostly glory and petty grievances. For me, the most valuable thing in poetry is a fact of life, true feelings of my contemporaries, humanity".
The versatile poetry of Pimen Panchenko is represented in numerous collections. The main part of the exposition comprises selected works and books of verses published in different years.
The reader will be especially interested in the cycle of poems The Iranian Diary (Іранскі дзённік), which the poet created after visiting Iran, and the collections The Book of Journeys and Love (Кніга вандраванняў і любові), The New York Pictures (Нью-Йоркскія малюнкі), A Thousand of Skies (Тысяча небасхілаў) written after the trips to the USA and other countries.
The collections of critical essays and memoirs about the known writers and literary events represent Pimen Panchenko as a publicist.
The poet was popular both in Belarus and abroad. His works translated into Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Serbian and other languages are on display.
The exposition also features publications about the poet’s life and work.
