From March 25, 2008 at the National Library of Belarus is open a book exhibition “A Part of the World…Theatre” dedicated to the World Theatre Day (March 27).




Theatre is an ancient art. Pierre de Ronsard, the French poet said the world is a theatre and we all are actors. The human memory keeps remembrance of majestic theaters of all epochs. Theatres large and small, existing during centuries and dying after a few seasons, traditional and experimental, chamber and festival, people’s and Bohemian, born by historical cataclysms and established by rich proprietors. All of them are a particular artistic universe; eminent actors, dancers, and producers worked there.

The exhibition reveals the history of the world theatre. At the exposition are displayed encyclopedias, monographs, and materials of conferences dedicated to the history of theatre and tendencies of the modern theatre art.The exhibition totals about 400 materials, among them:

  • books about life and career of the eminent actors, producers, and dramatists;
  • electronic encyclopedia “Theatre” in 3 volumes (“Ballet”, “Opera”, “Drama”) CD-ROM “The World of Theatre, Ballet, and Cinema”;
  • collected materials of scientific lections “Theatre Book between the Past and the Present” organized by Russian State Library for Art;
  • chronicles of Russian theatre of the ХVIII-th century;
  • Russian theatre of the early ХХ-th century;
  • diaries of V.A. Telyakovsky, the Director of Imperial theatres in St.-Petersburg (the early ХХ-th century).

A particular section of the exhibition is dedicated to the history of Belarusian theatre and life and career of the eminent Belarusian actors and dramatists.

The exhibition is located in the circular passage on the third floor. We invite to the exhibition everyone who is interested in theatre.

We present the updated virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region": on the 205th anniversary of the composer's birth

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.

On April 25, the National Library of Belarus hosted the opening of the exhibition "Dreams about Belarus", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders and the 85th anniversary of the birth of People's Artist of Belarus Vasily Sharangovich.
