The Library delegation participates in the World Library and Information Congress: 83rd General Conference and Assembly IFLA in Wroclaw (Poland) on August 19−25.
The topic of the Congress this year is “Libraries. Solidarity. Society”. The traditionally large-scale event gathered specialists from all over the world for experience and ideas exchange, discussion of new information technologies and achievements in the librarianship.
In the framework of the forum, on August 19, there was an annual regional meeting of representatives of libraries of the CIS countries, where the president of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) Donna Scheeder delivered a welcoming speech.
Roman Motulsky, director of the National Library of Belarus, vice-president of the Library Assembly of Eurasia, during the welcoming speech acquainted everyone present with events that will take place in Belarus in the year of the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book printing and invited to join the celebration of this significant jubilee.
It was the first time when there sounded the report of the Belarusian Library Association at IFLA. The first deputy director of the National Library of Belarus Elena Dolgopolova informed about the main directions of activities.
Alexander Visly, general director of the Russian National Library, president of the Library Assembly of Eurasia, vice-president of the Russian Library Association, Mikhail Afanasyev, director of the National Public Historical Library of Russia, president of the Russian Library Association, Yakov Shraiberg, director of the National Public Library for Science and Technology of Russia, president of the National Library Association “Libraries of the future”, Zhanat Seidumanov, director of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Vadim Duda, general director of the All-Russian State Library for Foreign Literature n.a. M.I. Rudomino, vice-president of the National Library Association “Libraries of the future” participated in the meeting as well.
On August 20, there was a festive ceremony of the IFLA opening, when guests enjoyed a bright theatrical performance.
During the conference, there’ll be meetings, sessions, where participants will discuss issues of copyright protection, the creation of digital collections, the peculiarities of the development of libraries in the information society.
