The 6th International Congress “The Library as a Phenomenon of Culture” has opened today.

The event is organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus and the National Library of Belarus with the support of the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS Member States, the Polish Institute in Minsk and the Goethe Institute in Minsk.

Director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky, head of department of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus Natalya Zaderkovskaya, director of the National Center for Legal Information of the Republic of Belarus Evgeny Kovalenko welcomed the audience and wished fruitful work to participants of the congress.

On the congress’ first day, a meeting of the Council of Libraries of Belarus on Information Interaction was held; the breakout sessions “Information Support for Scientific Research and the Educational Process,” “Information and Communication Technologies in Serving Users,” “Electronic Libraries and Resources in the Library and Information Space” began to work.

The event included a cultural program and excursions. Participants of the congress were able to visit an exposition titled “The Services and Resources of a Library in Electronic Environment” and the exhibition project “Doll Stories."

Every week from January to July 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.
