Dear friends! We invite you to the solemn opening and plenary session of the ХI International Bibliological Conference “Book culture of Belarus of the XІ – early XX centuries”.


The book lectures are among the major events uniting scientists and experts of different countries engaged in the study of Belarusian book culture. The current conference is a good continuation of the existing tradition. It will gather scientists from Belarus, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine and Russia who will present results of the latest researches on the history of Belarusian hand-written and printed book heritage of the XI – early XX centuries.

Lecturers: senior research worker of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Associate Professor, Doctor of History Georgy Golenchenko (“Problems of the study of Francisk Skorina’s documentarty heritage”), deputy director of the National Library of Belarus for research work and publishing activity, Candidate of Culturology Alexander Susha (“Preparations to the celebration of the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book printing”), head of department of the Science and publishing centre “Nauka” of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Candidate of History Dmitry Bakun (“Е.L. Nemirovsky and his role in the development of Francisk Skorina’s historiography”), head of the chair of history of the Central and Eastern Europe University in Bialystok, Doctor Habilitat, Professor Antony Miranovich, senior librarian of the Library of the Vilnius University, Doctor Victoria Vaitkevičiūtė (“Early printed books of the XVI–XVII centuries in Roman type from Belarusian printing houses kept in libraries of Vilnius”), deputy director for research work of the national Art Museum of Belarus Nadezhda Usova (“The book graphics of the early ХХ century of Belarusian publishing houses: structure and principles of design”).

The solemn opening and plenary session will take place at the conference hall of the National Library on April 16th, at 10 a.m. (side entrance on the right, 2nd floor, room 256b).

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.
