On February 28, the Gomel Regional Library named after V.I. Lenin hosted a seminar "Public libraries of the Gomel region in 2023: results, achievements, prospects" for directors and deputy directors of library systems of the region.
Employees of the Research Department of Library Science of the National Library of Belarus were invited to participate in the event.
Chief librarian Natalia Korneychuk introduced colleagues to the main results of the activities of public libraries of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus in the past year and outlined priorities in the activities of the country's libraries for the current year.
The role of the National Library of Belarus as a methodological and coordinating center for public legal information centers of the republic was outlined in her report by Chief librarian Irina Kuketa. She also informed the audience about the results of statistical monitoring of the centers' activities by the end of 2023 in the context of the last five years.
During the meeting, the results of the work done by the libraries of the Gomel region in the reporting year, the main goals and objectives for 2024 were discussed. The specialists touched upon problematic issues and outlined priority areas of methodological work.
The end of the first day of work was the summing up of the results of the regional competition "Library necessary for society" and the presentation of the exhibition project "Gomel Regiment of the People's Militia: history, feat, memory", prepared for the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Gomel from the Nazi invaders.
During the visit, on February 29, the staff of the National Library of Belarus visited the A.I. Herzen Central City Library of the state institution "Network of Public Libraries of Gomel", where they got acquainted with the history of the institution, its structure, resources and services provided to users, successfully implemented programs and projects, as well as the work of amateur associations, functioning on the basis of the library.
All participants of the seminar highly appreciated the results of joint work and the potential that professional meetings of this kind carry for joint cooperation.
