A large-scale joint project titled “On the waves of time throughout life” (2019–2023) of the National Library of Belarus, the State Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature, the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art and the magazine “Maladost” timed to the 100th anniversary of the “Maladnyak” union (1923–1928) opens with a festive event “We will live! Life for us...” dedicated to the 110th birthday of Valery Marakou (1909–1937), Belarusian poet and translator.

The event will present the beginning of the work of the National Library of Belarus on the virtual project “On the waves of time throughout life”. It is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Belarusian Literary Association of Poets and Writers “Maladnyak”, within which a section devoted to the 110th anniversary of Valery Marakou (1909–1937) was developed.

For the celebration, the State Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature prepared a temporary exhibition of photographs and books of the poet from its own funds and the collections of the National Library of Belarus. Theorists of literature, historians exploring the interwar period (1920–1930) and the works of Valery Marakou – Konstantin Tsvirko, Irina Bogdanovich, Vasily Zhibul, Anna Severinets, Anton Rudak and others – will report at the event.

The first event within the framework of the joint project is dedicated to the poet Valeriy Marakou, who was admitted to “Maladnyak” in 1926. He lived a short life, leaving behind only four poetic collections: “Petals” (1926), “On the Golden Mowing” (1927) , “Summits of Wishes” (1930), “Rights to the Weapon” (1933).

Almost until the beginning of the 21st century, the personality of Valery Marakou was little-known to the reader. To know better the work of the poet you may due to the works "Ashberry Night" (2003), collected and published by his nephew Leonid Marakou. He has studied the manuscripts of Valery and written the book “Valery Marakou. Fate, Chronicles, Context.”(1999).


The event will take place on March 14 at 4 pm in the State Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature (Minsk, Bogdanovicha St., 13).
