On the eve of the eightieth anniversary of the reunion of the BSSR, the National Library prepared an electronic collection titled “Belarusian literary heritage. Magazines 1919–1939” (in Belarusian: “Беларуская літаратурная спадчына. Часопісы 1919–1939 гг.”).
The virtual project contains more than 1,300 issues of the Belarusian literary magazines, which had been published in the BSSR, Western Belarus and other countries.
The project partners are the Presidential Library of the Republic of Belarus, the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the National Book Chamber of Belarus, and the State Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature.
The electronic collection includes three sections: Magazines of the BSSR, (in Belarusian: Часопісы БССР), Magazines of Western Belarus (in Belarusian: Часопісы Заходняй Беларусі) and Magazines of the Belarusian Diaspora (in Belarusian: Часопісы беларускага замежжа).
The Magazines of the BSSR section presents over 1,120 issues, published in the BSSR between 1919 and 1939. Most of them are in the Belarusian language.
The Magazines of Western Belarus section is multilingual. Periodicals in the Belarusian, Polish, Russian, Yiddish and other languages are presented.
The Magazines of the Belarusian Diaspora section includes the periodicals, which had been published in Poland, Latvia, Russia, Czech and other countries.
The project is designed for scholars in literary criticism, history, pedagogy, employees of libraries, archives, museums, as well as everyone who is interested in the history and culture of Belarus.
