An exhibition of rarities from Belarus and Latvia titled The Prototype of the European Constitution opened in the Book Museum on March 16.
The exhibition is dedicated to the Statute of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The ancestors of Belarusians were among the first in the world to have the written law in the native language. The document appeared in the 16th century and was translated into Latin, German, Russian, Ukrainian, French. It became the basis of the legal system of several states. The rarities presented at the exhibition prove that the Belarusian-Lithuanian proto-constitution was used in different countries, from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea, including Latvia.
