From July 6, 2009 to August 9, 2009, in the Official Documents Department of the National Library of Belarus (the second floor, room 207) is open a book exhibition “World population: care about future”.


The exhibition is dedicated to the World Population Day and the 40th anniversary of United Nations Population Fund foundation.

This Day is observed annually on July 11 according to the resolution of the United Nations Development Programme (the UNDP). It was first celebrated in June 1985 and was dedicated to the birth of the five-billionth earth dweller.

In 1969 the UN Population Fund (the UNFPA) was established to assist state governments in improvement of population policy, public health, sustainable development of population etc.

Since 1994 the UNFPA has been working in the Republic of Belarus. Each initiative of the Fund corresponds with the global goal: equal rights of men and women to health and healthy lifestyle. The Fund bases its activities upon national interests of the Republic of Belarus and cooperates with the Government of the Republic of Belarus.

Population programs of the UN Fund in Belarus cover the following subject fields:

  • demography (population and development);
  • reproductive health of youth;
  • gender equality.

The exhibition arranged by National Library of Belarus reveals demographic tendencies, evaluations and forecasts in the field of population, as well as the world demographics and population policy.

The exhibition includes the following subject sections:

  • activity of international organizations in the field of population policy;
  • the UNFPA activities;
  • population, environment, education and development;
  • demographics and demographic tendencies: the world statistics;
  • demographic structure, human and social resources in the Republic of Belarus.

The exposition includes about 100 documents: books, brochures, periodicals and mimeographed materials in Russian, French, German and English languages.

The exhibition is designed for professors, postgraduates, students, scientists, specialists in demography, sociologists, representatives of organs of government, and everyone who is interested in the modern social, demographic, and economic issues.

Adam Shanyavsky and the library fund of the Nesvizh county school (the last quarter of the XVIII century)

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
