From April 9th to September 9th, a book-illustrative exhibition “Through the fire of war” timed to the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory runs in the National Library of Belarus (2nd floor, circular corridor).
The Victory Day is the sacred holiday for our country. Decades are passing by, the generations change, but the Victory of our people in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945 forever remains in the heroic annals of Belarus as a symbol of national pride, military glory and valor.
The offered exhibition is a tribute and a sincere gratitude to veterans who accomplished the great feat liberating the world from fascism. The exposition presents over 150 books published in last five years: editions covering the key events of the Great Patriotic War form the tragic 1941 to the victorious 1945, reference and photographic materials, scientific papers, memoirs and fiction about the unique human fates, heroism, courage and steadfastness of the Soviet people, unknown or little-known military events and the international character of feats performed in the name of the Victory.
The 800-page volume The Encyclopedia of the Victory. Belarus – Moscow includes generalizing historical essays about the initial stage of the Great Patriotic War, partisan and underground movement in Belarus, and also the basic stages of the liberation of Belarus from invaders.
The unique book-catalog The Partisan Weapons is the first edition about the collection of handmade partisan weapons which is included in the list of historical and cultural treasures of the Republic of Belarus.
The book Never forget is the modern reedition of the known collection which first appeared in 1948 and has been republished 12 times. This is a contrast selection of photos of happy children of pre-war times and children of war – eyewitnesses of the terrible evil deeds of fascists.
Book series 1418 Days of the Great War, 1945. The year of the Victory, The War and Us, The Great Patriotic War: the cost of the Victory, The Great Patriotic War: Soviet commanders, The Great Commanders of the Second World War, Soldiers of the Victory, The Weapons of the Victory, The Great Patriotic War are on display.
The exhibition includes the thematic sections as follow:
- “We all need the Victory, one for all of us…”;
- “The chronicles of the Great Victory”;
- “The commanders of the Great Victory”;
- “Written by the war”;
- “May their memory live on forever”;
- “Let’s greet those great years…”.
The major task of the offered exhibition is commemorating those who won the right to immortality at the cost of life. Our sacred duty is to keep this heroic heritage and fighting traditions of the Belarusian people, and to transfer to new generations the sacred feeling of love of the Motherland, sovereign and independent Belarus.
