From April 7th to May 31st, a thematic book exhibition “Not to forget: the Great Patriotic War in works of Belarusian writers” runs in the Belarusian literature reading room (auditorium 205).

The war … It is divided from us by decades, but its events are still alive, and will be forever alive in the hearts and memory of people whose ancestors defended freedom and independence.

The theme of war inspires many writers, directors, artists, scientists and cultural figures. The war is reflected in numerous monuments and obelisks, works of art, memoirs, scientific papers, films, television and broadcast.

Many generations of Belarusian authors write about the war, especially those who have seen the violations and violence, blood and death bred by foreigners-aggressors on our ground, those who have survived the infernal fire of war.

The offered exhibition acquaints with books by known Belarusian writers dedicated to the Great Patriotic War: eyewitnesses of the war A. Adamovich, V. Bykov, Y. Bryl, A. Kuleshov, M. Lynkov, I. Melezh, I. Naumenko, I. Shamjakin, and also “children of war” V. Adamchik, R. Borodulin, V. Kozko, I. Ptashnikov, B. Sachenko, M. Strelcov, I. Chigrinov.

Also the exposition includes memoirs of witnesses of the war and documentary editions: S. Aleksievich, A. Adamovich, Y. Bryl, V. Kolesnikov, Z. Dudjuk, V. Kudlacheva and others.

The theme of war is reflected by not only writers participants of military operations but also those who were born after the Victory, in the post-war time. Their books are about events of the war, fates of their fathers and grandfathers, about those who had died in the battlefield.

A particular exposition section presents musical editions and audio documents: known songs about the war based on verses by Belarusian poets put on music.
