From 16 August to 14 September, a subject book exhibition “Those who won glory for themselves and the Motherland. Names of famous Belarusian people on the world map” runs at the Belarusian literature reading room 205.

The exhibition is devoted to the natives of Belarus who, in search of themselves, or a better life, or for other reasons, left their motherland in different historical periods and could develop their talent and gain world-wide fame in policy, science and art abroad. Among them were printing pioneers and educators, scientists and cultural figures, military leaders and statesmen, poets, composers and sportsmen. Due to their work and talent they went down in human history and made an important contribution to the development of science, culture and education. In different epochs, they brought, and they still bring to the world the best traditions of the Belarusian land: tolerance and patriotism, spirituality and enlightenment.

The offered exhibition presents literature about our world-known compatriots. Visitors can acquaint themselves with their biographies and achievements.

The exposition includes several sections. The first one – “The gallery of celebrated names” – is focused on general editions devoted to eminent Belarusian people and also includes separate works which authors were interested in this theme.

Belarus is a cradle of many eminent historical figures, thinkers, commanders, politicians and public figures. Each of them made an important contribution to diplomacy, history and policy of different countries. Editions devoted to these people are on display in the section "The celebrated names in history and policy”.

The section “The knights of science from Belarus” acquaints with biographies and creative achievements of world-famous scientists born in Belarus.

Sources presented in the section “Broadening boundaries of the universe” are about the outstanding sons of Belarus –courageous travelers, indomitable scientists, geologists and geographers, biologists and doctors, ethnographers and linguists, who made scientific discoveries studying life, languages and cultures of peoples among which they had to live.

Sources presented in the section “The natives of Belarus in the world culture” are evidence that the Belarusian land gave the world a number of celebrated cultural workers – painters, writes, musicians, sculptors and art critics.

The life-work and talent of our outstanding compatriots are still highly significant and deserve our attention and respect.
