A thematic exhibition “The system of copyright and allied rights in modern society”, dedicated to the International Day of Intellectual Property, has been opened since March 27 till May 28 in the legal information reading room (2nd floor, 207b).

This Day was accepted by the General Assembly of the International Organization of the Intellectual Property in September, 2000 and is annually celebrated on April 26 – on the day of the coming into effect of the Convention which established the organization.

The copyright has a significant role in modern society. Interests of author’s works of literature, music, art, cinema and computer programmes, common citizens who use these products and companies who earn by art are focused here.

Economic significance of the intellectual property results and means of individualization demands effective legal security. It’s easy to notice constant reinforcement of state and social attention to issues of relations regulation on the use of author’s works.

The Republic of Belarus isn’t aside from international processes. That’s why during its being a sovereign state, the following laws were worked out and adopted: “About copyright and allied rights”, “About trademarks and service marks”, “About patents inventions, useful models, production prototypes”, etc.

Our country is a participant of multilateral international treaties, which function under the aegis of the International Organization of Intellectual Property and a row of multilateral international treaties signed in the framework of the CIS, in the area of industrial property, copyright and allied rights.

Taking into account processes of unification of copyright of different states, it’s possible to mark the tendency to align different norms and suppose the creation of united author’s legislation of modern civilization system.

Nowadays, there’s a low level of statutory compliance in this sphere, which is caused by the fact that the majority of the intellectual product creators are unaware of their rights and possible ways of their implementation and protection.

The exhibition is targeted at scientific workers, professors, students and post-graduates of law schools, publishers, authors, librarians, and those who are interested in urgent issues of copyright and allied rights development.

The exposition offers more than 70 documents in Russian and other languages: books, brochures, periodicals.

The exhibition includes the following thematic sections:

  • Appearing and development of copyright and rights to the inviolability of the work.
  • International documents which regulate copyright.
  • Constitutional and legal bases of the intellectual property regulations in the Republic of Belarus.
  • Copyright in publishing activities and the media.
  • Piece of music as an object of copyright.
  • Court on intellectual rights.
  • Issues of copyright in libraries’ activities.
