The book illustrated exhibition The Painter’s Garden timed to the 175th birth anniversary of French artist Claude Monet (1840–1926) runs in the Fine arts reading room from 13 November to 20 December.


The artist’s name is virtually the synonym of impressionism. His painting Impression. Sunrise. which reproduction takes the central place at the exposition, denominated the school of painting, and the artist himself was the most consecutive, prolific and uncompromising among representatives of his generation.

The painting of Claude Monet is a rapturous worship of nature, the aspiration to transmit the world’s beauty in a special way. His original artistic vision became the basis for impressionists’ manner of painting which reflects direct impressions of nature and the beauty of its variability and infinity, and recreates visual sensations of bright sunlight by means of a palette of pure and sheer paints.

The offered exhibition presents albums and postcards with reproductions of the artist’s works, including his paintings in series – the compositions Poplars, Haystacks, the pictures from the Rouen Cathedral etc. The stand dedicated to the celebrated series of the artist’s late panels Nympheas with ponds and floating water lilies.

Books and essays about the life and creative career of Claude Monet are also on display.

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
