From March 20, 2008, at the National Library of Belarus is open a book exhibition “The Element of a Sacred Mission” dedicated to the Word Poetry Day (March 21).

The Word Poetry Day was established by the 30th UNESCO General Conference in 1999. This day was celebrated for the first time in Paris on March 21, 2000.

What is the poetry? Literary critics as well as poets suggested lots of definitions. Poetry – is a creative thinking; a particular vision of the universe; ability to tell about eternity and the present; art of suggesting feelings and thoughts with figurative sense.Some people say the poetry is the utmost step of language. Every definition reveals one or another angle of the poetry, but any of them is not conclusive.

The exhibition acquaints visitors with brilliant poets from the Antiquity to the present. There are multiple manifestations of the poetical inspiration, and at the same time all poets have something in common. Every poet has a feeling of a universal unity, thus this exhibition is a kind of a harmonious orchestra.

At the exhibition are displayed over 250 materials and includes the following sections:

  • “The World Library of Poetry”;
  • “Poetical Library”;
  • “An Immortal Library”;
  • “Classical and Modern Poetry”;
  • “Masters of translation”;
  • “Resume of the Century. Russian Point of View” (two volumes “Strophes of the Century”);
  • “Precious Strophes of the Chinese Poetry”;
  • “Belarusian Poetry of the ХХ-th Century”;
  • “Literary Belarus”.

At the exhibition are displayed as well the classical oriental poetry; works by authors the nobel Prize laureates; collected aphorisms by the eminent writers, philosophers, scientists, and public and political figures from West and East from the Antiquity to the present.

We invite to the exhibition pupils, students, teachers, experts of literature, and poetry-lovers. The exhibition is located in the circular passage (third floor, near the gallery “Labyrinth”).
