Exhibition “Racism: the Old Issues in the New Millennium” timed to the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (March 21).
From March 17, 2008, to April 13, 2008, in the Documents of International Organizations Reading Room (second floor, room 207g) is open a book exhibition “Racism: the Old Issues in the New Millennium” dedicated to the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (March 21).
The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination was established by the UN General Assembly at the XXI-th session in 1966.
The world society lives in the new millennium, but racism and discrimination are not still eliminated. As before, millions of people suffer from estrangement and superstitions because of their color of skin, ethnic origin, religion, and social status. No country is free from these social phenomena. Racism and discrimination threaten dignity of the person, social unity, and stability. Therefore, UN and other international organizations carry out a policy of democracy and pluralism aimed at the elimination of racism, racial segregation, and intolerance.
The exposition totals about 60 materials: books, brochures, periodicals, and mimeographed materials by international organizations (UN, UNESCO, European Union, and Council of Europe) in Russian, French, and English languages.
The exhibition includes the following sections:
- racism: retrospective review;
- international legal documents concerning the elimination of racism and racial discrimination;
- international cooperation in the field of the fight against racism;
- national policy for the elimination of racism.
The exhibition reveals the activity of UN and other international organizations in the field of the fight against racism and racial discrimination all over the world. We invite to the exhibition international relations experts, lawyers, scientists, professors, students, and everyone who is interested in the issues of human rights.
