From September 18, 2007 to October 15, 2007, in the Official Documents Department (the 2nd floor, room 207) is open a book exhibition "Peace. Development. Justice" dedicated to the International Day of Peace.

The International Day of Peace was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly (resolution 55/282, September 07, 2001), and it has been celebrated annually on September 21 as a day of global cease-fire and rejection of violence. Peace is the everyday reality for many of us. Our streets are safe, our children go to school. But for many of people peace is no more than a dream. They live in permanent fear and instability. For them the International Day of Peace is of a particular significance. This Day is destined not only make people think about peace, but also something do for it. The UN call upon all states and peoples to cease fire during this Day.

International Day of Peace is destined to attract the public attention to the issues of peace, peacekeeping, information and experience exchange. The modern world faces such challenges as war, terrorism, military expenditure, and fundamental contradictions among peoples and persons. These challenges cause an unexampled urgency of the International Day of Peace.

The exhibition totals over 100 documents which reveal the United Nations activities in the field of the eradication of causes of conflicts and wars, rendering of assistance, promoting of human rights, development of international agreements and other international and legal documents, peace keeping, reduction of poverty, and promoting of democracy and culture of peace.

The most part of the exhibition are documents of international organizations (UN, UNESCO, European Union, Council of Europe and others) in Russian and English languages: books, periodicals, and mimeographed materials of the UNO.

We invite to the exhibition specialists in the world policy, diplomacy, international relationships, international law, conflictology, as well as students, undergraduates, political and public figures and all who are indifferent to the issues of peace.
