An anniversary exhibition “On the way to the truth” timed to the 80th birthday of Mikhas (Mikhail) Mushinsky runs in the Belarusian Literature Reading Room from January 18 to January 28.
Mikhail Mushinsky is a known literary critic, textual critic, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, laureate of the State Prize of Belarus (1980), doctor and philology and professor.
The exposition includes more than 110 documents classified in three sections. The first section “Devotion to the mission” presents the scientist’s scientific papers that reveal the most characteristic features of the history of Belarusian literary criticism and also his studies of the life and career of Belarusian classical writers Y. Kolas, M. Goretsky, М. Zaretsky and others. The section includes books by Mikhail Mushinsky published between 1965 and 2010: “From the Conception to the Realization: the Creative History of «The New Land» and «Symon the Musician»” (1965), “Belarusian literary criticism and literary study in the 1920th –1930th” (1975), “Yakub Kolas. The Chronicles of Life and Creation” (1982), “Nothing but the Truth: what «The History of Belarusian Literature» must be like” (1990), “The True History of Mikhas Zaretsky’s Life and Creativity” (2005), “Textual Study of the Works of Yanka Kupala and Yakub Kolas”, “The Devotee from Malaya Bagatskauka: the Life and Creativity of Maksim Goretsky” (2008), “My Kalasaviny” (2010) and others.
The next section “From the conception to the realization” contains interesting sources such as fundamental many-volume editions of Belarusian classical writers with Mikhail Mushinsky’s forewords and commentaries. Most exhibits are collections and materials of scientific conferences, periodicals with the author’s articles, and documents compiled and edited by Mikhail Mushinsky.
Mikhail Mushinsky as a talented scientist is deeply concerned with the issues of literary criticism. The particular section “The tireless researcher” presents sources about his life and scientific work.
