An exhibition "The family of artists” timed to the 80th birthday of outstanding Belarusian graphic artists Georgi Poplavsky and Natalya Poplavskaya runs in the Visual Materials Reading Room (room 307) from January 19 to February 21.
The Poplavskys family is not only a longstanding matrimony, but also a long-term creative union. Each of two artists, having their original creative style, is equally successful at linoleum engraving and etching, lithography and watercolor painting. A number of editions have been designed by Mr. and Mrs. Poplavsky in co-authorship.
Painter and graphic artist Georgi Poplavsky and is one of the major Belarusian masters of a brush. His works inspired by life itself are based on the best traditions of folk arts. The artist’s major theme is the Belarusian people’s life, along with traditions and folklore of other countries.
The book illustrations of Natalya Poplavskaya are inspired by her love of literature which is, from the most serious books to children’s reading, a fount of knowledge and the beauty of the word and the thought. The artist’s original style roots in Belarusian folklore, and her world view has been formed under the influence of the children’s book. Her vision of the world is embodied in her painting compositions inspired by the everyday life.
The exhibition presents more than 120 documents: albums, books, articles, prints, calendars, postcards and posters.
