On September 11, 2007, in the art gallery “Labyrinth” took place the opening of an exhibition “The National Library of Belarus. Milestones of the History” dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the National Library of Belarus. The exhibition reveals the stages of the Library development, acquaints visitors with the history of the main Belarusian Library, and reveals succession of traditions founded by several generations of Belarusian scientists, librarians, and bibliographers.
The displayed materials acquaint visitors with such figures as: Iosif Simanowski, the first director of the Library; Julia Bibila, the bibliographer, the first head of Belarusian literature department; Nina Votatsy, the bibliographer, the BSSR honored cultural worker, and others.
The exposition is located in the Book Museum and includes original materials from the NLB’s collections and copies of archival materials. There are presented the NLB scientific and bibliographic publications, unique photos, manuscripts, materials from eminent librarians; private archives, awards including the Labor Red Flag (1972), as well as gifts which the Library received during celebrations of anniversaries and visits of guests. The exhibition presents as well as materials on the Library building: projects by architects G. Lavrov (1929), M.Vinogradov and V. Kromarenko (1989, 2001), and a symbolic key and the model of the Library’s new building.
