From April 30 to June 1, an exhibition “Giving all the life to the song” dedicated to the 100th birth anniversary of Russian composer Mark Fradkin runs in the Music and audio materials reading room (auditorium 305).
To Mark Grigorevich Fradkin (1914-1990), the people’s artist of the USSR and winner of the USSR State Prize, belongs a honorable place in the assembly of coryphaeus of the song.
A variety of themes, patriotism, lyricism, a rich rhythmic and elements of folk music are inherent to his songs. The composer’s lyrical works are close to the hearts of listeners, they echo their secret feelings having become people’s songs in the highest sense of this word.
His first works (Song about the Dnieper, Unexpected Waltz, Bryansk Street, Song of the Volga Hero) had made him known at once. These songs were sung on the roads of war, and millions people loved them.
After the war M. Fradkin created not less popular Birches, We Lived in the Neighborhood, For the Factory Gate , Komsomol Volunteers, And the Years Fly, Farewell, Doves, and the true masterpiece, the song The Volga Flows.
Then there were new significant works by the composer – For that Youth, Beyond the Clouds, I’ll Take You Away to the Tundra and others.
Mark Fradkin is the author of music for movies and telefilms Volunteers, A Simple Story, Once 20 Years After, Fathers and Grandfathers etc. He also wrote music to theatrical dramas.
The most part of the exposition are music editions and audio records from the collections of the National Library of Belarus representing the composer’s creativity. Visitors have an opportunity to listen to M. Fradkin’s works performed by L. Zykina, L. Utyosov. M. Bernes, I. Kobzon, D. Hvorostovsky, L. Leshchenko, A. German, ensembles Samotsvety, Plamya etc.
The book by M. Fradkin My Biography (1974), the monograph by A. Kurtsman Mark Fradkin (1991), reference editions and numerous articles from periodicals devoted to the composer’s life and creative activity are also on display.
