From 17 April to 4 May, an exhibition "Following the sun: mythology of the Belarusians" runs in the Visual Materials Reading Room (room 307).
Since the dawn of times myths have existed not only in the distant lands, but also on our Belarusian land. For several centuries people have been collecting and recording myths, tales, legends heard from the old, wise people – our distant ancestors and relatives who in turn have heard these legends and learn them from their grandparents, and they – from their...
They tell about the creatures that inhabit the world around in people's imagination. Here, in our country, among fields and forests, lakes and rivers, in the yard and in the house, in the air, water and underground all the characters included in the myths of our Motherland supposedly existed – lived, reigned, bossed, helped or hurt.
From the books, albums and illustrated documents presented in the exhibition it is possible to learn more about characters, habits and tempers of unusual mythical heroes from Belarusian legends and fairy tales, as well as see the illustrations on this theme. Visitors of the exhibition will meet with the works of such authors as: N. Nikiforovsky, A. Serzhputovsky, I. Kruk, O. Kotovich, A. Shamak, I. Vuglik, A. Butevich, etc.
Among the exhibits are editions Belarus u abradah і kazkah by P. Shpilevsky (2010), Vjartanne zabytaga mіfa by Z. Dudyuk (2013), Mіfalogіja Belarusі: narysy by T. Shamyakin (2000), Svjatlo tajamnіchaga vognіshcha by A. Nenadavets (1993), the encyclopedic dictionary Mіfalogіja belarusau (2011).
The exhibition is designed for a wide range of readers interested in the culture of the Belarusian people.
