From 1st April to 2nd June, a thematic exhibition "Family, the crown of all values” timed to the International Family Day runs in the Legal information reading room (room 207b).
The International Family Day was established by the UN General Assembly in 1993.
Today the family is the major environment for the preservation of cultural values and national traditions and their transmission from generation to generation. Observation of the International Family Day helps to improve the status of the family and promotes the best understanding of its essential problems and needs. In family there is a process of formation of the person as persons and as citizen. The well-being of the family can be named a criterion of development and progress of the state.
”The firm family – the strong state” is one of the major ideas which consolidate modern Belarusian society. The Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus № 157 of 26th March, 1998 ”About state holidays, official holidays and memorable dates in the Republic of Belarus” proclaimed 15th May as the Family Day in Belarus. At present various aid programmes for young families, large families and other families have been developed. A purposeful support for the family is guaranteed by laws of the Republic of Belarus ”About children’s rights”, ”About public health services” , the Code of marriage and family , the National programme of demographic security of the Republic of Belarus for 2011–2015 etc.
In the basis of the state family policy three is such an important direction of activity as the protection of motherhood and childhood. In Belarus the reliable system of protection of families with children including economic, social, labour guarantees and rights is created. In the country there are territorial centers of social service where experts of various profiles and qualifications work: psychologists, teachers, lawyers, doctors, social workers. They reveal the need of concrete families and children for various kinds of the social help, provide home nursing for troubled families and children, render psychological, pedagogical and legal aid to families and children in a difficult social situation. One of priority directions of their work is the rendering to teenagers of legal and information help and arrangement of their leisure.
In Belarus a special attention is given to large families. The system of social support for young families is constantly improving. The new Law ”About welfare payment to families with children” and the resolution of the Council of Ministers “About the Republican programme “Children’s nutrition” for 2011– 2015” have been recently adopted.
However, despite of all undertaken efforts, the increase of family conflicts is marked, and traditional family values have undergone cardinal changes. The Family Day allows to reflect once again upon the importance of the family in our life and to care of our relatives.
The exposition includes over 40 documents: books, brochures, periodicals in Russian and English languages.
The exhibition consists of the following thematic sections:
- Legal regulation of family relations in international documents;
- Family protection in the legislation of Belarus;
- The family right in foreign countries.
