The thematic exhibition “Discover a tobacco-free world!” runs in the Periodicals reading room (106), from 24 May to 12 June.


Smoking is one of the most complex problems of our time, the cause of many diseases and premature death. It has become firmly embedded in everyday life, so it is perceived as a completely ordinary event that does not attract attention. This harmful habit is rapidly spreading among all social groups of different ages.

Magazines and newspapers on display cover the problems associated with smoking and reveal its social aspects.

Numerous international medical studies have revealed serious harm caused by smoking to young adults. Prevention of nicotine addiction among adolescents is an urgent topic throughout the world, which is covered in the magazines Narodnaja asveta, Vychavanne i dadatkovaja adukacyja etc.

We present the updated virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region": on the 205th anniversary of the composer's birth

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

On April 25, the National Library of Belarus hosted the opening of the exhibition "Dreams about Belarus", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders and the 85th anniversary of the birth of People's Artist of Belarus Vasily Sharangovich.
