From 5 September to 8 October, an exhibition "Dear Minsk, you are the only one in my heart!" timed to the Day of the City (14 September) runs on the 2nd floor of the circular corridor.


The National Library of Belarus congratulates residents and visitors of Minsk on the Day of the City and invites to a festive book exhibition (2nd floor, circular сorridor).

Minsk is the capital and the largest city of the Republic of Belarus with a rich historical past. The first mention of it has been found in the ancient chronicles The Tale of Bygone Years and refers to 1067. It says that Minsk is known to have been the center of a separate principality at the beginning of the 12th century. From the 14th century, the history of the city was connected with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The emergence of economic activities contributed to Minsk getting Magdeburg Rights at the end of the 15th century, and in the second half of the 16th century it was recognized as the center of Minsk Province. In 1919, the city officially became the capital of Belarus.

At the beginning of the third millennium, Minsk is one of 273 largest cities in the world with a population of over 1 million people and occupies a prominent place among them. It is a modern European city with a developed infrastructure which has its official symbols: an emblem, a flag and an anthem.

The proposed book exhibition gives a possibility to open unknown pages of the life of the Belarusian capital, explore the history of ancient and modern Minsk with its main streets and squares, architectural buildings, monuments.

The exhibition consists of six parts.

The first section "The Capital of the Magical Land" includes book editions that introduce visitors to the capital and tell about its historical past and its modern state.

The sections "The Center of International Communication" and "Industrial and Business Center of the Country" are about the most significant Minsk’s enterprises, international exhibitions and business forums.

Books on theaters, museums and leading educational institutions of Minsk are displayed in the sections "The spiritual life of Minsk" and "The City of Knowledge".

Minsk is shown as the sports capital of Belarus in the section "The City of the Health and Social Standards". It contains information on the history of sport and the Olympic movement of the city, the development of the social field.

The exposition includes about 150 publications.
